Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for styling wigs and hairpieces
- Confirm hairstyle design elements and production requirements and timelines with relevant personnel
- Select wigs and hairpieces for required hairstyles and according to performers’ measurements
- Check facilities and equipment meet health, hygiene and safety requirements
- Clean and condition wigs and hairpieces taking into account stitching, knotting and fibre type
- Cut wigs and hairpieces
- Test performers’ skin for potential adverse reaction to wigs and hairpieces and take remedial action if required
- Apply hairpieces to scalp area and trim to blend with existing natural hair
- Apply wigs to performers and adjust to ensure a comfortable fit
- Apply hair cutting techniques to achieve the required wig appearance
- Cut switches and postiche as required to blend with required appearance
- Apply design finishes to wigs and hairpieces
- Select styling aids, tools and techniques appropriate to required hairstyles
- Take into account the effect lighting has on hair colour and aspects of physical appearance when finishing wigs and hairpieces
- Use hairstyle design elements to produce hairstyles according to production requirements and within agreed timelines
- Confirm, with relevant personnel, that hair designs meet production requirements and adjust styles as required
- Attach wigs and hairpieces to performers’ heads or place on head blocks for fitting at a later time
- Document hair designs for future performances and continuity purposes
